Dr. Paul R. Pirigyi is a graduate of Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia, PA. He has done training in surgery and is board certified in Emergency Medicine since 1982. He is also a lifetime Fellow of the American College of Emergency Physicians. He started his career in Emergency Medicine in 1976 at St. Peter's University Hospital as a staff physician. He served as Chairman of the Department of Emergency Medicine from 1984 until 2010. As chairman of the department, he was involved in policy decisions, liaison with the rest of the Medical/Dental Staff as well as the hospital administration and Board of Trustees. Dr. Pirigyi had served on the Executive Committee of the Medical/Dental Staff and had been the Secretary-Treasurer, Vice President and President of the Medical/Dental Staff. He was also on many hospital committees including Bylaws Committee, Critical Care Committee, Chairman Committee and Medical Records Committee. He was involved in the teaching of residents at St. Peter's University Hospital since 1976. Dr. Pirigyi has been the President of New Brunswick Emergency Medicine Associates, P.A. since 1984.

Dr. C. Alana Varano is a graduate of UMDNJ-Robert Wood Johnson Medical School. She has done training in surgery and is board certified in Family Medicine. She is a member of the American Academy of Urgent Care Medicine (AAUCM) and the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP). She began practicing emergency medicine at St. Peter’s University Hospital in 1985 and acted as the Assistant Director of the department from 1990 until 2010. Her responsibilities as Assistant Director included the management of various quality assurance and performance improvement initiatives within the department. She participated in the development, implementation and testing of the hospital disaster management plan. She acted as physician liaison to various hospital committees including Continuous Quality Improvement Committee, Critical Care Committee, Domestic Violence Task Force, and Pharmacy Committee. In addition to her clinical responsibilities, Dr. Varano was responsible for patient satisfaction. Dr. Varano has significant teaching experience and has been an instructor for the American Heart Association in Advanced Cardiac Life Support and Pediatric Advanced Life Support. She has developed training programs for EMTs and provided continuing education for volunteer rescue squads.
